Karnataka State Medical College Seat Distribution, New MBBS Seats in 2025
NEET UG
The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) oversees admissions for 85% government seats and 100% private medical seats. The General Merit (GM) category has the highest seat reservation in government colleges, with 44% of seats across various Karnataka State Medical colleges.
Karnataka offered 12,395 MBBS seats across 71 medical colleges for 2024-25. After approval from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), 1,500 new MBBS seats in 2025 will likely be added to Karnataka State Medical Colleges for the 2025-26 academic year. The addition of seats marks a huge milestone in the state, setting it as the leading medical education provider across the country.
Out of the 12,395 MBBS seats, 85% of the seats (9,282 seats) were available for state counselling, whereas 15% of the seats (3,113 seats) were available for MCC counselling. This article gives a detailed breakdown of the seat distribution across Karnataka State Medical Colleges.
A total of 65 Karnataka State Medical Colleges under 5 institute types and 6 quotas participated in KEA NEET UG counselling 2024. Seats were available under 76 categories and sub-ccategories in these Karnataka State Medical Colleges.

Candidates were able to apply for seats across five institute types: Private Institute, Government Institute, State Private University, Deemed, and Government Institute - ESIC. The following table shows the number of seats available for each Karnataka State Medical College type.

50% of the seats were available in Private Institutes, with 4,595 seats, the highest among other institute types. 32% of the seats (2,978 seats) were available in Government Institutes. 15% of the seats (1,400 seats) were available in State Private Universities. 189 seats were available in Deemed Universities, which is 2% of the total number of seats. 1% of the seats, which is 120 seats were available in Government Institute – ESICs.

Seats were available across 6 quotas, which include Government Quota, Management Quota, NRI Quota, Private Quota – GMP, Private Quota – Minority, and Private Quota – Open. The following table shows the number of seats available for each quota across Karnataka State Medical Colleges.

57% of the seats, which is 5,266 seats were available under the Government Quota across Karnataka State Medical Colleges. This is followed by Private Quota – GMP, with 1,049 seats (11%). 10.7% of the seats were available for Private Quota – Minority, with 999 seats. NRI Quota, Private Quota – Open, and Management Quota had 882 (9.5%), 800 (8.6%), and 286 (3%) seats, respectively.
A total of 65 colleges offered undergraduate medical courses in Karnataka state NEET UG counselling 2024. 24 of these colleges were Government institutes, having a total of 3,098 seats. 35 colleges were Private institutes, and the remaining 6 were Deemed institutes. There are 189 MBBS government quota seats at 6 Deemed Universities in Karnataka, which have subsidized fees. These types of seats are only available in Karnataka and Jharkhand.
New Medical Colleges in Karnataka for 2025-26
Three new medical colleges were approved by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) Karnataka and the National Medical Commission (NMC). The following are the 3 newly added Karnataka State Medical Colleges.
New MBBS Seats in 2025 - The medical education space is expected to further expand in Karnataka, with the addition of 1,600 seats. This comes after the recommendations by the Local Inspection Committee (LIC) to expand seat capacity at eight private and 16 state-run medical colleges across the state.
Two more new colleges, at Ramanagara and Kanakapura, are set to commence operations from the academic year 2025-26. 250 new MBBS seats in 2025 will be added to these colleges, bringing the total number of new seats MBBS seats in Karnataka to 1,850 seats. The New MBBS Seats in 2025 will provide greater opportunities for aspiring medical candidates, boosting healthcare infrastructure across the state.
